Donor Testimonials
“Ohio State is seriously striving to be among the top universities, and I’m excited by that mission. That’s one of the reasons I gladly contribute to Campus Campaign. A little help from each of us can make a big difference.”
Dave Denlinger, Biological Sciences Greenhouse Coordinator
“”Why to I gift to Campus Campaign? I like being able to designate exactly where my gift will be used. I give to the Bio Sci Greenhouse and the Jennings Hall Gardens because I know that I am supporting what I believe in and what I work for every day… providing an environment which excites students to learn and inspires researchers to explore.”
Joan Leonard, Biological Sciences Greenhouse Coordinator
When faculty and staff give back to the University each year, it says to colleagues and the greater community, “I Believe in Ohio State.” Campus Campaign demonstrates our continuing commitment to the University and to Ohio’s future.
Dick Hill, Dean and Professor Emeritus, OSU College of Optometry
“Ohio State is a major employer in the Columbus area and the largest university in the country. Our leadership role in charitable giving thus far has been impressive and we need to maintain that to show our academic peers and other local employers what they should be striving for. The generosity of Ohio State’s employees illustrates the tremendous impact that thousands of individuals, making often modest contributions, can have on their worthy causes of choice.”
Greg Armstrong, Assistant Professor, Plant Cellular and Molecular Biology
“I’ve given to the Jennings Hall Renovation Fund since it started, because a modern classroom building, which also provides leading-edge laboratories for student research, is sorely needed. We have such outstanding students preparing to do such important work in the health sciences, education, environmental issues, and other fields that will benefit all of us. They deserve to have a special place to serve their needs!”
Anita H. Rimmer, Office Manager, Department of Biochemistry
“I like knowing that my investment (along with those of my colleagues) in FAES has helped my department make capital improvements and establish a student employee scholarship fund.”
Chuck Gamble, Manager, Farm Science Review
“I give to colon cancer research because my sister died of colon cancer, and I give to MS research because a dear friend of mine was recently diagnosed with this disease and I don't want to lose her, too.”
Michelle Hardin, Geriatrics & Gerontology
“The number of worthwhile funds at Ohio State is mind-boggling, but I selfishly chose two that saved my life--not literally, but in a very real sense.
First, I give to the Library Renovation Fund, because growing up in a small Ohio town, the library was my passport to the larger, wider world. I devoured books the way some children eat candy and never tired of the joy of opening a new book. Most of all, I could not believe these riches were mine--for free! Education. Entertainment. Exploration. Experience--all there at my fingertips!
Second, I give to the Biological Sciences Greenhouse Fund, because along with the library, my childhood refuge and dreamscape was my grandfather’s garden--an enchanted enclosure where everything exploded with bloom under my grandfather’s devoted care--and where I could watch a bud unfurl--and read a book!
Unfortunately, both gardens and libraries are too often taken for granted, but a world-class research institution cannot function without a matching world-class library--of books and of plants and insects! And while they are “free,” they need our help to maintain their excellence and provide outstanding service. I am more than happy to be able to support my two longest-standing passions!”
Sandi Rutkowski, Director, College Communications, Biological Sciences
I donate through campus campaign to the Heart Research Fund. Seven years ago my father passed away from a heart attack. It was devastating to my mother, brothers and me. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him and the way I felt when he left us. I hope that by donating to the research of heart disease that I might prevent another family from suffering the same loss that we did.
Lorrie A. Hall, College of Education and Human Ecology
I give to the CFAES Staff Advisory Council Training Fund because I believe in the staff at The Ohio State University. I like it that every individual staff member gets a chance to get additional training/professional development of some kind to help advance their position here at the University.
Elizabeth J Kinney, Department of Horticulture and Crop Science
I give to the Ben Stinner Endowment Fund. I had the privilege of knowing Ben as a friend and co-worker. It was obvious when you spoke with Ben that his heart and soul were in his work. I believe that the work Ben was doing at the time of his death is important and giving to the fund is my way of making sure his work with healthy agroecosystems and sustainable communities continues.
April Martin, Comm Tech, OARDC
Giving to Campus Campaign is not only in financial support, but it also expresses a spirit of caring, it says that I believe in giving credit where I think credit is due. The Campus Campaign offers opportunities for me to personally connect with OSU programs and provide support in a way that those programs will grow. In giving, you will fulfill a sense of charity for the well-being of others, develop a sense of pride in the programs you support and are grateful for what can be accomplished through giving.
Ken Cochran, Secrest Arboretum, OARDC
I want to say that I believe in Ohio State Campus Campaign because I was a recipient of the OARDC Outstanding Staff Award. To me it was one of the greatest honors, to be recognized by my supervisor and co-workers as someone who excels on the job. Since then I have made it my mission to continue providing the level of service and support (and to go beyond that level whenever possible) for which I was given that award. Without the contributions to the Campus Campaign, the Outstanding Staff, Family Scholarship and other funds to help promote excellence would not be possible. Thank you again.
Jody Lanham, Computing & Statistical Services, OARDC
When asked what they believe in at Ohio State or why they believe in Ohio State, Campus Campaign 2006 coordinators and volunteers responded:
Ohio State believes in me!
With OSU's presence and diverse resources, Columbus Ohio, is a better place in which to live.
It has allowed me to live a richer and more productive and interesting life, by providing me not just with an excellent education, but social and cultural opportunities, most of my dearest friends, my husbands, and my career. Ohio State opened my mind and opened my world. And because I work here, I can see that Ohio State continues to provide that "opening up" to new generations of students.
I believe in the bright young minds it turns out into the world.
