Your Gifts at Work

Throughout the year, the Campus Campaign office and fiscal offices across campus receive requests from faculty and staff asking how their gifts are being used. Collected here are stories about some of these faculty and staff “favorites," providing information about how the fund is currently being used as well as anticipated needs and plans for the future. With just over 11,000 faculty and staff donors to more than 2,000 funds, there are many wonderful stories to tell.

Aspirations: Filling the gap for young adults with autism spectrum disorder
For young adults with autism spectrum disorder, getting a job can be much easier than keeping it; social and vocational limitations can make it difficult for young adults on the spectrum to fit into the work environment. For 10 years, Aspirations (fund 312653) has been providing a social and vocational support network as a place for young adults to develop these skills in a safe, accepting environment with their peers.

Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens: Who will speak for the trees?
Chadwick Arboretum & Learning Gardens is a 60-acre green reserve located at The Ohio State University. We provide outreach, education, and a living laboratory of more than 2,000 plants from around the world to students, staff, and the community. Become a friend of Chadwick by giving $35 a year; gifts may be made online to fund 306837.

Fighting triple negative breast cancer at The James
Four months after Anne Wolf was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, she lost the battle to this very aggressive disease that generally affects young women and often does not respond to chemotherapy or other treatments. The Anne M. Wolf Fund for Breast Cancer Research is growing rapidly to advance research at The James.

Columbus Public Health farmers' markets get support from faculty and staff

As the university rolls out the 2012 Campus Campaign, the College of Public Health would like to highlight one of its more popular funds, the Columbus Public Health Farmers' Market Project (fund 313292). Each year, faculty and staff support the farmers’ markets with their dollars and time.

Women & Philanthropy: Inspiring women to discover the power of giving together
Ohio State’s Women & Philanthropy program (fund 312147) inspires women to discover the power of giving together.  Each member of the program contributes a minimum of $1,000 annually, which is deposited into a pooled fund. Members then vote on how the fund should be distributed.

Encouraging scientific achievement in middle school girls

The Young Women’s Summer Institute provides girls with the skills and confidence to pursue science, technology, math, and engineering (STEM) fields so that they can make strong contributions in the not-too-distant future. Giving to fund 311146 through Campus Campaign allows Ohio students whose families demonstrate financial need to attend the camp.

Treating cancer in dogs at Ohio State helps humans, too

Donations to the Veterinary Oncology Advancement Fund support cancer treatments in animal patients. Pets have access to advanced, state-of-the art care at little to no cost, and critical information is gained that can be used to advance the treatment of human disease.

The College of Medicine White Coat Ceremony

Breast cancer research: We continue to fight
Continue to fight. These were Stefanie Spielman’s final thoughts before she lost her decade-long battle with breast cancer in 2009. The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research, the Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund, and The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James) are doing just that. Today, more than $8 million has been raised for the Spielman funds to support breast cancer patients and research at the OSUCCC-James. Contribute online.

Children's vision: A quality of life issue
