In 2007, Abbott rebranded Ross Products Division as Abbott Nutrition, with a continuing commitment on essential growth, development, and well-being for all stages of life.

The relationship between Abbott and The Ohio State University, which began in 1944, is dedicated to helping the lives of patients and students alike. The company has provided more than $14 million to Ohio State programs and research in support of such areas as The Ohio State University Hospital, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, and the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Abbott has given $7 million in support of research initiatives at Ohio State, with its philanthropic pursuits crossing into some of the traditional areas as well. Abbott Nutrition has been a member of Fisher's Center for Operational Excellence (COE) since its inception. COE is a partnership of business leaders and educators who share a common goal of achieving world-class operational excellence across the supply chain through education, research, and networking.

"The Center for Operational Excellence is a natural fit with our business. The center's programs offer an excellent opportunity for us to learn and share our best ideas and best practices with our peers," said Neil MacIvor, chief operating officer for Abbott’s New Product Innovations.

The company also supports The Ohio State Medical Center with gifts of infant formula and other products. The nutritional operation is based in Columbus and led by Donald Patton.

Both Abbott Nutrition and Ohio State share a vision and goal of becoming a trusted worldwide leader in providing innovative and superior health services that advance the quality of life for people of all ages. With Abbott’s living values and leading-edge science and commercialization, the company is at the cutting edge of finding solutions that address human needs. It promotes groundbreaking treatments and products, lifesaving medical devices, and new approaches to managing health.

Abbott Nutrition thinks globally, believing that nutrition will be integral to the wellness needs for worldwide health and development for many decades to come. Contributing to the Ohio State community further augments its commitment to delivering resources in socially responsible ways by maintaining the tenets upon which the company was founded—providing innovative and superior nutrition that advances the quality of life for people of all ages.

Abbott Nutrition was launched as a rebrand of the Ross Products Division, which was a part of Ross Laboratories until Abbott acquired the company in 1964. The Ross family name was known at the turn of the 20th century for bottling milk for home delivery. Two decades later, the business successfully teamed with a scientist to produce and sell a new infant formula. With the newfound success, the company became Ross Laboratories, a respected name for nutritional products and health research. Abbott Nutrition remains committed to excellence and innovation that encompasses every stage of life for essential growth, development, and well-being.
